“Sing to the Lord a new song. Sing to the Lord all the earth.” Psalm 96:1 (American Standard Bible) Matthew 25:40 NIV
“How many different bird songs do you think we heard on our hike this morning?” My husband asked.
Heckrodt Wetland Reserve had been the ideal setting for our walk. Coal black crows, orange-breasted robins and a sassy blue jay were a few of the birds filling the crisp April air with a symphony of song. Each bird had his own distinct sound. We wondered how many kinds of birds there were and how it was possible to have such a myriad of songs; all of them short, clear and beautiful. God’s creative power was simply beyond our comprehension.
Just as He made every bird song distinct, He created every writer with his own voice as well. He uses our distinct talent to serve others in a myriad of genres. There are writers who pen Christian novels, others prepare ‘how to’ articles and many send notes of encouragement.
The Christian novelist might introduce a booklover to God. A “How to Walk Closer with Jesus” article may guide the reader to make a commitment to Christ. A note of encouragement is always appreciated by a friend facing trials.
By plugging into the source of our voice, our Lord Jesus Christ, and praying for His wisdom in our individual writing assignments, others can be blessed by our “song.”
Dear Heavenly Father. Thank you for the unique song you have given each bird and for each of our distinct voices. Help us to seek your wisdom and guidance as we use them to glorify Your name. Amen
