PRAYER, BELIEF AND FAITH WORKS: READ ABOUT WHAT IT DID FOR ME
The sad part about all of this a lot of friends seem to go away:: I don't know if they don't know how to deal with it, they stop comming around, stop calling it seems like they want to distance them selves from you. WE NEED THE SUPPORT OF FRIENDS, It gets very lonely....

A little history about me

PRAYER, FAITH,TRUST, AND LETTING GOD TAKE CARE OF YOU WORKS.

My name is David R. Hanners, I was born August 4th 1956 in Troup County GA. I am married to the most wonderful woman in the world. We have two wonderful children a daughter that lives in Nebraska. A son that lives in Georgia. We have seen good times and bad times. I have had a number of jobs through my life time, I served in the Army, have been a residential electrician, medium and high voltage tectniction. Fireman, a police officer, and a police chief for over 15 years, in GA and NE.

I was living in Nebraska where I was working as a police officer in a small town of 3000 citizens. In May of 2006, I developed a cough that would not go away. After trying all the cough medicines and going to the doctor a number of times, I had a x ray that showed a mass in my left lung. It was determined to be lung cancer. Of course there came shock, after crying in a number of beers, and then crying on my best friends shoulder most of the night. I decided there was nothing I could do about it. I put it in gods hands, I wan't say I for got about it, but I was at peace with it. I made up my mind I was not going to be miserable, fill sorry for my self, or make any one else miserable.

The first doctor I saw thought he could take it out with surgery, after he opened me up he decided he could not, it was a state 3a. I was closed back up and while I was in the hospital, a burning hit me in my chest, that if you can think of a blow torch on the inside of you, that is how bad it was. I went out (there is a light at the end of the tunnel). After that I was sore for months. During this time I of course lost my job as I could only get 120 unpaid medical leave. Of course this means no insurance, to convert my work insurance over was costing me 800.00 a month, thank GOD for my daughter and her husband. She paid it for us.

During my fist hospital stay my daughter gave birth to a bouncing baby boy.

During this time loosing my job, my house, and almost every thing I own. I had to take 33 radiation treatments, and some very intense Chemo treatments, that was so intense that I did not know if it was worth it. But yes it was.

The citizens of the town that I lived in got to gather, and did fund raisers, donations, and other things to help us. They raised enough for us that we were able to survive. Living in Nebraska there is nothing close to anything. I was having to drive three hours for treatments every week from Monday - Friday. Once again, GOD provides We had a friend living in the town where I was having treatments. She opened her home up to us and said it is your home too. We stayed with her for approximate two months. If it had not been for her I could not have had the treatments, I did not have the money to rent a place.

After the treatments, It was determined that I need 3 more sessions of Chemo, I decided to take them in the town that I was living in. There was a doctor that came once a week to our hospital to do cancer care. When I went to see him for the first time, I was told that I might as well just get my affairs in order. Of course I wanted a second opinion, I contacted another doctor in Omaha, a seven hour drive. Made my appointment and she said that the 3 chemo treatments, would help and the tumor was not growing. So once again the stay away from home. My daughter lives in Omaha so that took care of the place to stay. GOD provides.

During this time, we decided to relocate back to Georgia so my wife could be with family and friends incase something did happen. My wife was working at home taking call for different products, not much money but better than none at all. As I was on the 6 month waiting period for my social security disability. While working one day she talked to a lady that happen to work for a cancer doctor at Emory Hospital in Atlanta Georgia, GOD provides.

A dear friend of ours owned his own 18 wheeler. Some of the police officer, and friends loaded the truck as I was not able due to the operation. The truck was loaded our household goods and the out side yard stuff trucked back to GA for us, and at no charge, GOD Provides. My family and my wife’s family was standing by to help unload, GOD provides. My sister had a place that we could rent to live in. The air central heat and air went out. And in this GA weather there would have been no way I could have stayed in the house after having brain surgery. And of course after loosing everything the house, job, savings, we could not get loan. Some how a lady found out about our problem. Her and her husband donated the money to have a central heat and air system put in and, GOD provides.

When we got to GA in November of 2006, we made an appointment and he said that it had went form a stage 3a to a stage 1a, and it could be taken out with surgery. December I went in for surgery, the top lobe of my left lung was removed, half of three ribs, limp nodes and some other things. I came out of the hospital, Christmas eve. I was not as sore, no burning (as with the first time) I was able to get around a lot quicker this time.

I developed a head ache that would no go away in the last week of June. On July the 4th it was so bad that I could not stand it I was sick at my stomach also. I lost my motor skills, could not get around. That is the last thing I remember. My wife took me to the emergency room, I was giving medicctionian and they did a MRI, she was told to take me home and make me comfortable, they found three lesions on my brain. The cancer had spread. I do not remember anything from Thursday to Monday, except vaguely getting ready to go to the emergency room.

My wife contacted my doctor in Atlanta, who got us an appointment with a brain surgeon, Once again GOD provides. He said we will go in and take them out. I went in the hospital the last week of July 2007. There was a tumor in the front of my brain and one in the back. The surgery turned out great, after a four day hospital I was able to come home. GOD provides.

There was a small tumor that could not be removed at this time. I am going to have to have 15 more full brain radiation treatments. Everyone thinks that this will take care of if and maybe kill any other cancer cells, that are in the brain, GOD provides.

August 15th, 2007 my wife and I was baptized and joined the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, just a small country church here in Heard County, but a lot of faith, and good people.

Other than not being able to work, because I miss it, I have no complaints.

I think I am the luckest person in the world, there are people a lot worst off than I am. I have a great life, a wonder wife for 30 years, good children. I am able to be my self, I can get around and pretty much still be in dependent, just cautious.

This shows that prayer, faith, trust, and belief, and turning it over to GOD, and letting him take care is all it takes.

The moral of this story is, if you give up, loose faith, than half the battle is over. Put you trust in GOD, and he will take care of you and provide for you.

I refuse to give up, or sit around being miscible and making others miscible, life is to precious for that. I try to keep a good sprit, be happy and make others happy. It is in Gods hands, he will take care of us. The cancer does no worry me there is not a thing that I can do about it, I leave that up to GOD and the doctors, I will not say that I don’t worry about how I am going to get the money to pay my medical bills and cover the cost of living, but again I know GOD will provide what I need. It may not be when I want it, but he will provide.

To day is August 15th 2007, I met my wonderful wife 30 years ago and we had our 29th Anniversary this year. We are still on the HONEY MOON.

I also start my radiation treatment today. It is all going to be good,

I have started treatments

My daughter gave birth to our second grandson,August 19 2007
09/03/2007 Radiation treatments are going good. 4 more theatments at this time.

I have done all my treatments. Everything went well. As of my last doctor visits, I am cancer free at this time. I have a doctor's visit in Jan. with my brain surgon, and an appoitment with my lung surgon in June.

On Jan 16th 2008 I was told I had two more tumors on my brain. One on the right and one on the left side. I will find out on the 22d what they are going to do with them. All is
in gods hands.

They are going to do a Radiosurgery procedure that consist with heavy radiation to the area’s this is going to take about an hour. If they find any new cancer they will also treat it at that time, All is good all is in GOD’S hands.

On 01/31/2008 had the Radiosurgery, everything seems to be going good. Head hurts from the screws they screwed into my skull, but other than that all is great it is in GODS hands. Will have to go back for a new MRI in three to four weeks for a check up.

On 02/29/2008 I had a follow up appoitment with my doctor. The two tuemors on the brain are still there, they seem to be stable not growing and causing no problems at this time. Will know more in 3 months when I go back for another follow up. It is all in Gods hands.
